The foster and adoption parenting journey is hard, messy, and sometimes exhausting. But in-spite of the hardships, it's also a journey filled with stories of beauty, hope, and resiliency.

We are excited to welcome our friend, and fellow author and adoptive parent, Steve Disselhorst, to The Honestly Adoption Podcast. We had an amazing conversation on his book, the importance of community for parents, inclusivity, and why the end-goal is for vulnerable children to find permanency with loving families.

A little more about Steve…

Author of the memoir Determined To Be Dad: A Journey of Faith, Resilience, and Love, Steve Disselhorst is the Founder & Principal of a consulting firm, which specializes in personal & professional leadership development and consulting for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). During his tenure at Genentech, a biotech company, Steve led leadership development initiatives including strategies and programming to advance historically underrepresented groups in leadership positions.

Whether Steve is creating leadership development programs, facilitating trainings to improve organizational effectiveness, or designing learning solutions to foster culture change, Steve draws on his MBA in marketing and his 25 years experience in corporate America to help each client achieve their unique goals.

Steve serves on the San Mateo County LGBTQ Commission, is a speaker for the San Francisco LGBTQ Speaker’s Bureau and is active in San Mateo County Stonewall Democrats. Previously, he was co-chair of the board of directors for the non-profit, Our Family Coalition, which advances equity for LGBTQ families with children.

Steve is the father of two wonderful children who are the center of his world. They were both adopted; the first through private, open adoption and the second through the foster-to-adopt program. When he is not working, he is usually spending time with the kids at the beach, park, or riding their scooters.

How to connect with Steve…
