Adoptive and foster parents are not saviors. We are not rescuers. News flash! That may step on your toes. But unfortunately, when parents believe this about their parenting journey, they set themselves up for failure. Our role is so much more! We need a healthier perspective on the adoption journey.

Author and adoption advocate, Karen Springs, has been on a journey to share the beautiful and hard truth about adoption worldwide. In fact, she spent months traveling the country and interviewing adoptive families on what they’ve learned, how they’ve grown, and what they want the world to know about adoption.

A little more about Karen…

Karen Springs lived in Kyiv, Ukraine for over fourteen years advocating for orphaned and at-risk children and working with hundreds of adoptive families. Karen was a part of the team that saw the birth of the Ukraine Without Orphans movement and has partnered alongside the global WWO effort since the movement began.

In 2020 Karen published her book, “Adoption Through the Rearview Mirror: Learning from Stories of Heartache and Hope” which chronicles her journeys as an adoption advocate and unpacks themes in adoption based on interviews conducted with adoptive families.

Having managed humanitarian and child advocacy projects throughout Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East with Orphan’s Promise today Karen continues as an advocate for children in families around the world. With a background in performing arts, production and writing, she is passionate about using those gifts to advance God’s Kingdom and see nations collaborate in solving their orphan and vulnerable children crisis through the World Without Orphans global movement.
