Survival behaviors are common among children with a trauma history. The reason is simple: they often can’t articulate unmet needs and, thus, resort to survival tactics and methods to try to meet those needs. While they’re common, there are crucial steps we can take, as caregivers, to make sense of, and effectively respond to these behaviors.
In this episode of The Honestly Adoption Podcast, Mike and Kristin, along with Nicole Goerges, walk through these steps, and provide listeners with practical solutions to help them better parent their children.
During the show, they discuss….
- Identifying unmet needs
- Recognizing triggers and knowing what to say to help your child re-regulate
- Helping your child move from basement brain living to their upstairs brain.
