It will happen in the grocery store check-out line, the soccer fields, even the classroom. People can be mean. But the last people you’d expect this from are your own family members! However, it happens. Here’s how to respond when it does.
Every month we dialogue with foster parents over email, face-to-face, or at speaking engagements, and the the common theme we hear is, “I had no idea what I was getting into.” We understand. Once upon a time, we felt that way. But we learned some valuable lessons that are important to understand before starting foster care.
Fourteen years ago we became adoptive parents and our lives changed forever. But our story didn’t start off as perfect and beautiful as some may believe. We had some big questions, with very few answers.
One year ago today, I was suddenly fired from my job at a church. The experience was devastating and embarrassing. But one year later, I’m living a bigger purpose than I could have imagined.
